The Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance (CCBA) will feature another outstanding program by Magnus Persmark in November. He will share photos and stories about his travels to the Southern Ocean, which surrounds Antarctica. Magnus explored these islands and waters in December 2024 and will share photos, stories, and his impressions in this presentation.
On this trip, Magnus traveled to the Subantarctic islands from New Zealand. While thousands of tourists travel to Antarctica and nearby islands every year from the southern tip of South America, only a few intrepid adventurers from the other side of the globe venture into the Southern Ocean. Although this region lacks icebergs, it hosts unique plants and fabulously rich bird communities, which include a flightless teal, an endemic parakeet, numerous species of tubenoses, penguins, and terrestrial birds many of which are found nowhere else. Join your friends at the Campbell Center (155 High Street) on Tuesday, November 25. The doors open at 6:30 for some social time before the program begins at 7. A Zoom link to the program will be available on the CCBA website about one week before this event. The program will also be recorded and viewable on our website a few days later.
