First Saturday Bird Outing, Mar 7

Our March Saturday bird outing will take place Saturday March 7th at 8:30 AM. These birding opportunities are specifically designed to center women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ folks. We will be meeting at Perkin Peninsula here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/yj9CR5GCg2BBif9K6
Please note that you should park in the first dirt parking lot flagged in the above map link if you do not have a Lane County Parks Pass. You can read more about this area here: https://www.lanecounty.org/government/county_departments/public_works/parks/our_parks/perkins_peninsula_park

We will walk along paved and dirt paths, with some small inclines. The total walk will likely be between 1 and 2 miles. There are restrooms available on-site.

We plan to bird for about 2 hours. The route is not covered. It is currently forecasted to be cold and rainy that day, so please plan accordingly. This means bringing any cold-weather and rain gear that you may need (e.g., raincoat, rain pants, umbrella, warm layers, hat, etc.). We will meet rain or shine.

We will have one extra pair of binoculars available, a scope to share with folks, and a couple of field guides.

Our First Saturday Bird Outings, created as part of our commitment to the Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance Inclusivity and Diversity Statement, are meant to hold intentional space for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ birders. Birders of all levels and backgrounds are welcome to join, particularly those who may have felt intimidated at the thought of birding alone or on other guided walks. Location and leader TBA.

Program Meetings

Our monthly program meetings have something for everyone. During the last year we hosted programs by naturalists, wildlife artists and expert birders on a variety of topics from the birds of Hawaii, to ravens, wolves, and people, to the migration of red knots. Participating in a program meeting is a fun way to get involved with Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance. Meetings are free and open to all.

We are currently meeting on Zoom and in-person as conditions allow on the 4th Tuesday of each month between September and May at 7:00 p.m.
