Birdlife and the Natural Ecosystems of the South Pacific, Tasmania, and Western Australia–with Forest Tomlinson

Join your CC Bird Alliance friends on Tuesday, October 28, for an inspiring presentation by local birder Forest Tomlinson. Forest has a knack for spectacular programs. The program will highlight the stunning landscapes, extraordinary birdlife, and unforgettable marine experiences of the region.

This adventure takes us from the lush islands of Fiji and New Caledonia to the rugged wilderness of Tasmania, and on to the sweeping coasts of Western Australia. Along the way, we’ll meet some of the most extraordinary—and rare—birds on Earth: the stunning doves of Polynesia, the extraordinary Kagu of the New Caledonia rainforest, and Tasmania’s endearing Forty-spotted Pardalote and vibrant Green Rosella.

But the wonders don’t end in the treetops. We’ll go beneath the waves of the South Pacific, where crystal-clear waters reveal sea turtles gliding over coral reefs, schools of rainbow-colored reef fish, and even sleek reef sharks patrolling the underwater canyons.

The program will conclude with a look at Western Australia’s unique birdlife and ecosystems, rounding out a journey that spanned rainforests, coastlines, and open oceans. Birders, nature enthusiasts, travelers, and anyone curious about the wonders of the natural world will all find something to fascinate them in this presentation.

Forest is a retired schoolteacher who started birding in 1986. He has traveled extensively in Central and South America and has had a camera at his side for the past 11 years. His past programs for CCBA and other local bird groups have made us eager to see what he has for us this year.

Come to the Campbell Center, 155 High Street, for this program. Doors open at 6:30 pm. The program begins promptly at 7 pm. This presentation will also be available over a Zoom link. For those of you who prefer to view it from home, check the CCBA website a week before the event. The program will be recorded and posted on our website a few days later.
