Program Meeting 11/25/25 Birds of the Southern Ocean
The Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance (CCBA) will feature another outstanding program by Magnus Persmark in November. He will share photos and stories about his travels to the Southern Ocean, which surrounds Antarctica. Magnus explored these islands and waters in December 2024 and will share photos, stories, and his impressions in this presentation.
On this trip, Magnus traveled to the Subantarctic islands from New Zealand. While thousands of tourists travel to Antarctica and nearby islands every year from the southern tip of South America, only a few intrepid adventurers from the other side of the globe venture into the Southern Ocean. Although this region lacks icebergs, it hosts unique plants and fabulously rich bird communities, which include a flightless teal, an endemic parakeet, numerous species of tubenoses, penguins, and terrestrial birds many of which are found nowhere else. Join your friends at the Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene, on Tuesday, Sept 23, at 7:00. The doors will open at 6:30 for some social time. This program will be available online via Zoom. The link for the presentation will be posted on the CCBA website about one week before the event; a recording of the program will be posted there within the following week.
Program Meetings
Our monthly program meetings have something for everyone. During the last year we hosted programs by naturalists, wildlife artists and expert birders on a variety of topics from the birds of Hawaii, to ravens, wolves, and people, to the migration of red knots. Participating in a program meeting is a fun way to get involved with Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance. Meetings are free and open to all.
We are currently meeting on Zoom and in-person as conditions allow on the 4th Tuesday of each month between September and May at 7:00 p.m.
