Please Help Feed the Birds At Pete Moore Hospice House

You wouldn’t know it, but in certain circles I am a minor celebrity! Every time I waltz into Pete Moore Hospice House, every single staff member goes out of their way to tell me, the bird lady, how much the patients love the birds. Family members shower me with gratitude. The birds also seem happy to see me, but their enthusiasm is tinged with impatience. Can’t I see that the feeders are empty?! The fact that I filled approximately fifteen of them just a week prior is irrelevant. In the here and now, these birds are on the brink and I had better get busy.

It must be said that I feel more than a little sheepish about collecting all the praise for this project, which is only made possible by the extraordinary generosity of Dara Nichols and Barbara Gleason of Wild Birds Unlimited (WBU). They have donated approximately $1,500 worth of seed and infrastructure, not to mention their time and expertise.

Last year, after The Quail published an appeal, many local birders contributed generously to the project. As a result, we now have all of the infrastructure we need, and your donations of funds and seed carried us through most of the summer.

I appear again, hat in hand, to ask if any of you would like to help by donating seeds to feed our hungry feathered friends through the upcoming seasons. Good options are medium sunflower chips and No Mess Northwest. You can buy seed at either WBU location at a discount if you tell them it is for Holly Knight/Pete Moore Hospice House.
