The always-entertaining Ram Papish has promised to take us along on his adventure into the land of the world’s most flamboyant and flashy birds.
The island of New Guinea, in the far southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean, is the world’s second largest island. A slender peninsula of Australia points north to Papua New Guinea, which takes up the eastern half of the island. This country is famous as a location for Birds of Paradise, Bowerbirds, Pittas, and Paradise Kingfishers. But is it really paradise for birders? You’ll have to decide that for yourselves.

Ram Papish is a professional illustrator specializing in wildlife and historic depictions. The stream-side property where he lives in rural Toledo, Oregon, is rich in both wild and domestic plants and animals. His other interests include flowering shrubs, birdwatching, wildlife photography, community theater, chickens, and world travel. Ram is particularly proud of having been featured as Mr. August in the 2024 “Chicken Daddies” calendar!
