Using Native Plants in Your Garden: A Popular Workshop

This was “the best of this sort of thing I’ve ever been to,” exclaimed Heather, one of 41 people who signed up for our sold-out workshop called “Using Native Plants in Your Garden.” The presentation that took place March 15 at Amazon Community Center was enthusiastically embraced by the crowd. It was sponsored by the Upper Willamette Soil and Water Conservation District and put on by Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance.

Presenters featured Cynthia Lafferty and Becca Wages of Doak Creek nursery; Alan and Janet Butler (restoration experts); Greg Oldson, rain garden expert; CCBA board member Hannah English, employee of Friends of Buford Park native plant nursery; and CCBA board member Barb Bryson, manager of Habitat Haven.

Participants learned a lot about which plants work best in our area, how to remove invasive plants, and where to begin with habitat creation. Stay tuned for more workshops in the summer.
